For the loved ones of those who have disappeared, it can be a torturous wait to find out what happened. In almost all of the cases profiled on this website, this is the case.

Yet some people do get answers, even after many years. But such answers are rarely positive ones. This includes the family of Jordan Moray.

Moray vanished in August 2019 in mysterious circumstances. Sightings followed, TV appeals were made, and efforts to find him continued. But in September 2025, Jordan’s remains were found.

This tragic case shows that sometimes, no answers can be better than a harmful answer. For Jordan’s family and friends, his disappearance and subsequent death are difficult to digest.

Jordan Moray was 33 at the time of his disappearance and lived in Aberdare, Wales. Moray lived a rather solitary life, with a lot of time spent in his own company. One of his main passions was engaging in outdoor activities.

Moray was last seen by his mother Debbie. He had been dropped off by her at his home. Jordan’s mum recalled that he had said that he would see her the next day. However, this didn’t ever happen.

After not being able to reach Moray by phone in the following days, Debbie went to visit his house on 2nd August 2019.

After arriving, she found that the door to Moray’s flat was unlocked. Upon entering, she found a strange scene. His PlayStation console was switched on, his phone was on charge, but crucially there was no sign of Moray.

There was nothing to suggest that Moray had left in a panic or in a hurry. However, they noticed that his rucksack, trainers and headlamp were all missing. This suggested he might have left to go somewhere.

Jordan was reported as missing by his family members. The way in which his house had been left suggested he had just nipped out quickly and had intended to come back quickly – but this didn’t seem to be the case.

After being reported as missing, the Police launched a search. They carried out searches in the local area, mountains and woodland around Aberdare but were unable to make any progress in the case.

He was last seen on CCTV on 24th July buying some water in a local store. However, the Police found that there was no CCTV in the area of Moray’s flat.

Therefore, they were unable to find out when Jordan left his flat, the time of day/night, if he was with anyone, or what he was wearing. This hindered their investigation.

Forensic analysis of his flat found that there was no evidence of anyone else being in the flat. Moreover, there was no sign of a struggle, suggesting that Jordan had left voluntarily.

The lack of knowledge as to when precisely Jordan disappeared between 24th July and 2nd August was a huge problem to investigators. It left them with an impossibly large window of time to analyse.

The Police also found that there had been no activity with his finances – with no cards being used or cash being withdrawn. It certainly seemed that Moray had left his life behind – either intentionally or unintentionally. Unfortunately, despite a strong effort, the Police were unable to locate Moray.

Several apparent sightings were made. One of the most important reported sightings was captured on doorbell footage. The doorbell footage came from outside Jordan’s brother Josh’s house.

In the footage, a man appeared. The man appeared to have camouflage paint on his face – though Jordan’s family believed that the figure was indeed Moray.

Another significant reported sightings came from a member of the public from the outskirts of London (Stratford-upon-Avon). He came forward to say how he had been approached by a man who said that he was living on the streets but was planning on visiting his brother – with the member of the public saying that the person looked like Moray. He only found out about Moray’s disappearance many months after the encounter, but after making a connection, he reported this to the Police.

In 2023, Moray’s disappearance featured on an episode of the British TV show Vanished. This resulted in renewed interest in the case.

Debbie Moray and the wider family were left devastated by Jordan’s disappearance. She said in an interview “why would he do it to me” and that she was “just heartbroken” by the case.

On 29th August 2025 – over six years after Jordan vanished – the Police were notified of the presence of human remains near a reservoir in the Brecon Beacons.

Following analysis, the remains were identified as Jordan’s. His family were notified, leading to their devastation.

Jordan’s brother Josh paid tribute to Jordan on social media, saying “he wasn’t just my brother he was my best friend” and that he loved him. Others paid tributes too to Jordan.

His remains were found in an area which was about a 3 hour walk from Aberdare, or a short car/taxi ride. Either was reasonable for Jordan to do. It isn’t known how long his remains had been there for.

His remains had been found in a very remote area – which explained why his body hadn’t been found. The Police confirmed they were not treating the case as being suspicious.

While a cause of death wasn’t confirmed, due to the Police not treating the case as suspicious, it realistically means Jordan either succumbed to the elements, or took his own life.

Prior to Jordan’s remains being found, several theories had been put forward. Our website had an article about Jordan, where we listed some theories.

Perhaps the most hopeful theory was that Jordan had intentionally vanished and that he did not want to be found.

The grainy doorbell footage led to hope that he was indeed alive. With Jordan also being a big fan of the outdoors, it suggested that he could even be living on the streets.

However, the way that Jordan’s home had seemingly been left in order suggested that there may have been foul play involved. There were suggestions that Jordan had been taken by force and later killed.

Jordan’s reclusive life made it unlikely that he had any enemies, or had got involved in any troublesome situations. Moreover, forensic investigations suggested no other person had been present.

Another prominent theory was that Jordan had left his house on purpose, with the intention of taking his own life. It could explain why he left his phone and cash, as he may have felt there was no need in taking these.

As an experienced hiker, Jordan would have known some peaceful and quiet locations. This might have been seen as a pleasant location to end his life.

However, he was not known to be suffering from any mental illness at the time. Additionally, the way that his home had been left suggested he was only leaving briefly. This wasn’t in keeping with this theory.

We closed the poll due to this very sad outcome. All of the theories we put forward were popular. At the end of the poll, the votes were:

  • Jordan Moray left on purpose and is living on the streets (30.43%)
  • Jordan Moray left on purpose and took his own life (26.09%)
  • Jordan Moray was taken by force and then killed (21.74%)
  • Jordan Moray left on purpose and became injured (21.74%)

Jordan Moray’s disappearance left a huge impact on those he left behind. His death was tragic, and caused more suffering for his family.

He won’t be forgotten though and his legacy will live on. The words written online about Jordan are testament to his popularity and kindness.

This case shows that while many never receive an answer as to what happened to their loved one, some do. For the Moray family, it was a tragic answer. May Jordan Moray Rest in Peace.
