Mysterious Disappearances: What Happened to Anthony Reyes?

In June 2024, Anthony Reyes disappeared in mysterious circumstances, having last been seen at the end of his property standing next to his wife.

His disappearance remains unsolved, with several questions surrounding what truly happened to him. There have been many allegations of foul play.

Background

Anthony Reyes was 36 at the time of his disappearance. He lived in Bayville, New Jersey, in the United States.

Reyes had been married to his wife Rosie for 18 years at the time he disappeared. Reyes had 7 children in total.

Reyes was taking medicine at the time of his disappearance due to various ailments, both physical and mental. He suffered from back pain, as well as the debilitating mental health conditions Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder.

Reyes had authored two books and was a doting father to his 7 children. He was a talented writer, with both books receiving strong reviews.

The Disappearance

On 28th June 2024, Reyes vanished. The exact circumstances that led up to the disappearance are not entirely known, with different stories emanating.

According to the official missing person’s report, Reyes’ wife Rosie said that following a disagreement, Reyes walked out of the residence and never returned.

The report states that he was last seen at 7.30pm walking along Route 9 in Bayville. Furthermore, the report states that he left without his phone, wallet, or medicine.

It was common for Reyes to go for a walk to clear his head. However, he failed to return that evening. The next day, on 29th June, Reyes was reported as missing.

The Investigation

The Police were notified of Reyes’ disappearance. Reyes was well known to the Police, with the force being aware of his psychiatric history.

Therefore, he was sometimes picked up by Police officers when he was out walking and taken for psychiatric evaluation. The Police felt that this might be a similar case, but on this occasion, were unable to find Reyes.

The Police searched the local area for Reyes, but there were no signs of him. Moreover, the Police appealed for any CCTV or camera footage from locals, but again, these appeals did not result in any new leads.

Woodland near the back of the house was also searched, but once again, there was no sign of Reyes. This was in the opposite direction of where he was last seen, but it was still searched.

It seemed that the Police had very few leads. His wife Rosie was questioned about the case. She passed a lie detector test, which led to the Police clearing her of any involvement.

Barbara Reyes is the mother of Anthony, and she has been vocal in her efforts to find her son Anthony. Barbara mentioned how she looked for Anthony both day and night for several months.

At one point, she had to stop working due to the time she was putting into the case. But unfortunately for Barbara, her efforts have proven futile.

In the months following Reyes’ disappearance, the Police were unable to find him. While the case does remain open, there are seemingly no leads to go on.

Later Developments

As the months went by, no progress was made. It was as if Reyes had completely vanished. This is what the missing person’s report suggested. However, another side of the story exists.

There has been the possibility raised of Rosie having an involvement in her husband’s disappearance. After all, she was the last person to see him alive.

Barbara has expressed doubt about the accuracy of the official story. She has spoken about a range of strange events and circumstances around the time of her son’s disappearance.

Barbara said that when she last saw her son on the day of his disappearance, Rosie had insisted that she drove a friend of Barbara’s granddaughter home.

Upon returning, she had been told by Rosie that her son Anthony had gone out for a walk. But while this was a fairly common occurrence, Barbara was unable to find her son when looking for her. This was unusual, as Barbara knew Anthony’s normal walking routes.

Barbara has pointed out that the temperature was very warm at that time of the year, and that Anthony seemingly left without any belongings.

Moreover, Barbara says that the missing person’s report was filed quickly – as if Rosie knew that he wouldn’t be returning. Sniffer dogs were called and Barbara says that Rosie said she didn’t have anything to offer as a scent for the dogs.

Eventually she provided a baseball cap. The sniffer dogs were unable to find any trace of Reyes outside of the property’s boundary.

Barbara has highlighted other strange occurrences relating to her daughter-in-law. For example, when she asked Rosie which way Anthony walked, she said she didn’t know. Moreover, Barbara said that Rosie and her family didn’t assist with putting out flyers to advertise Anthony’s disappearance.

Comments on social media have also led to many questioning potential involvement of Rosie. But others have pointed to her passing a lie detector test as proof that she was not involved.

Rosie has since found a new partner, who is a hunter. This has led to some suggesting that the hunter may have used their skills and knowledge to assist in a staged disappearance.

It is known that Rosie and her new partner had been talking for a few months before Anthony’s disappearance. It isn’t known what the contents of these conversations were, and if there was any plotting involved.

Rosie has not openly defender herself, nor have the Police questioned her since the lie detector test. She has received some support on the internet – including a GoFundMe page, with her friend Amalia Trengrove praising Rosie for her strength following Anthony’s disappearance.

As for Anthony Reyes, his whereabouts remain unknown. There are many tributes and kind words about him online – with a consistent theme being how much he loves his children.

Barbara continues to promote awareness of Anthony’s disappearance. She continues to rally people on social media, and continues to speak very highly of Anthony. It is incredibly difficult for Barbara, but she remains strong.

Reyes has several tattoos that may help to identify him. These include a lion on his chest, a rose on his right forearm, the word ‘royalty’ on his left forearm, and his surname on his calf.

The case is currently sat with the Berkeley Township Police Department, with the case number being H660-2024-00077. Anyone with any information on this case should contact the department as soon as possible.

Theories

This is a very mysterious case, with very few concrete answers provided. There are a few theories that have been put forward to suggest what might have happened.

We take a look at the evidence for each theory:

Theory One: Anthony Reyes died through exposure

Reyes was leaving at a time when temperatures were hot. It is possible that he could have got lost in the local area and sadly died through exposure to the elements.

It would explain why he has never reappeared, but it would not explain why a body has never been found.

Additionally, it should be pointed out that as he lived in a populous area, it is unlikely that someone wouldn’t have spotted him, or offered to help.

Additionally, Reyes used to go on regular walking routes, so it is unlikely that he would have got lost. But without his medicine, it is a feasible suggestion.

Theory Two: Rosie Reyes was involved in Anthony Reyes’ disappearance

There are many odd things about this case – many of which point to Anthony’s wife Rosie Reyes being involved in his disappearance.

She was the last person to be seen with Anthony, which immediately puts her in a position of interest.

It is possible that Rosie, or her partner, had arranged for Anthony to be abducted at the end of the property, before being taken away and tragically killed.

This would explain why Anthony wasn’t seen on cameras, or why he wasn’t spotted by anyone in the area on the night of his disappearance. Also, it would explain why the sniffer dogs were unable to get any scent of Anthony outside of the property.

Rosie allegedly didn’t partake in any searches, nor did she hand out flyers to raise awareness of Anthony’s disappearance. It is questionable if this is how a loving wife would behave.

Rosie’s new partner, as a hunter, may have knowledge of areas where a body could be disposed of. They may have plotted to kill Anthony, especially if they wanted to live together and spend the future together.

While their marriage seemed happy, it may have actually been rather tense behind closed doors. Rosie may have seen a fake disappearance as a way out of potential issues.

Anthony going out on a walk without a phone, cash, or his medicine, seems very bizarre. Moreover, he would typically go on the same walking route. None of this happened, which is very odd.

Rosie did pass a lie detector test though. Furthermore, she is known to have set up a GoFundMe following Anthony’s disappearance, though it was soon shut down for unknown reasons.

Altogether, there are many questions about Rosie’s role in the case. While some of it could be explained, there are many unanswered questions. It could be argued that there are simply too many strange occurrences here for her to be considered innocent.

Theory Three: Anthony Reyes took his own life

It is possible that Reyes took his own life. It is known that he suffers from severe mental health conditions, which increases the risk of suicide.

While he may not have set off to take his own life, he may have made a split-second decision. It would explain why he didn’t return, but it would not explain why he has never been found.

Similarly, if he was alive in the days following him leaving, he would be without his medicine. This could have distorted his thinking, leading him to take his own life.

However, he loved his children dearly. Similarly, he was very close with his mother. But mental health problems can cause anyone to take drastic action.

If he did take his own life, we can only hope that Anthony Reyes is at peace. But it should be pointed out that his family do not believe this is a likely outcome.

Theory Four: Anthony Reyes remains alive but is on the streets

Another possibility is that Anthony Reyes remains alive, but living on the streets. If this is true, he is likely disoriented and confused.

As mentioned earlier, Reyes suffers from severe mental health conditions. Without his medicine, he would probably be struggling and unable to function properly.

As a result, he may be living on the streets without having a total understanding of what is happening in his life. If he receives his medication, he may return to normal life.

This is arguably the most favourable outcome, as there is a chance that Reyes will be able to return to his previous life – unlike other theories.

However, Reyes is relatively well-known in the area, and his face has appeared on many flyers. Therefore, it is questionable as to whether or not he would be able to go undetected for such a long time.

Theory Five: Anthony Reyes died in a different way

There are other possibilities not discussed above. If death was the outcome, then Anthony’s wife Rosie being involved in some way appears to be the likeliest cause. However, there are other suggestions,

Anthony may have been hit by a car while out walking. Or he may have been the victim of an attack in an unfortunate case of mistaken identity.

But this theory is difficult to believe, as he wasn’t seen on any cameras. Additionally, disposing of a body successfully can be very difficult.

Still, there is a possibility that this theory is accurate. While it would explain why he didn’t return from his walk, it wouldn’t explain the absence of a body.
